For Un pezzo d’Italia, Rudolf Fitz turns his attention toward Italy. Created during an extended stay in Apulia in spring 2026, the works move beyond documentary representation and instead evoke a fragmentary image of Italy shaped by personal memories and cultural projections.

Facades, portals and storefronts of pasticcerie, trattorie or seaside bars recur throughout the exhibition without ever depicting identifiable places. Fitz speaks of “fictional realities” suspended between observation and imagination. His paintings feel both unreal and recognizable, like fragments of places remembered or dreamt rather than directly experienced.

Marked by an almost graphic clarity, the works combine smooth surfaces, precise compositions and recurring motifs that create the effect of a visual series. Through repetition and typification, Fitz transforms ordinary urban scenes into archetypal images of a collective longing.
